In the realm of ancient Egypt, where the sun kissed the sands and the Nile whispered secrets of old, there existed a goddess whose name echoed through the ages—Isis, the Mother of All, the Lady of Magic. Her story is one of love, resilience, and rebirth, a timeless narrative that speaks to the heart of humanity.
Born of the sky goddess Nut and the earth god Geb, Isis was destined for greatness. From her earliest days, she was not just a goddess of magic, but also a protector of the downtrodden, a beacon for those lost in despair. With her nurturing spirit, she took it upon herself to teach the people of Egypt the arts of agriculture, weaving, and healing. She was revered not only for her divine powers but also for her compassion and wisdom.
Yet, it was her love for Osiris, the god of the afterlife, that defined her legacy. Together, they ruled over the fertile lands of Egypt, bringing prosperity and joy to their people. However, their happiness was short-lived. Set, the god of chaos and the desert, consumed by jealousy, conspired against Osiris. In a cruel act of treachery, he trapped Osiris in a coffin and cast it into the Nile, where it was lost forever.
Devastated by the loss of her beloved, Isis embarked on a perilous journey to reclaim him. With her magic, she traversed the lands, overcoming obstacles that would have broken lesser beings. Her determination led her to the farthest reaches of the earth, where she gathered fragments of her husband’s body. Each piece she found was a testament to her unwavering love—nothing could deter her from her quest.
When she finally reassembled Osiris, Isis used her profound knowledge of magic to bring him back to life. This act of resurrection was not just a personal triumph; it marked the birth of the afterlife in Egyptian belief. Osiris became the ruler of the underworld, ensuring that those who lived virtuously would find peace in the afterlife. Through her sorrow, Isis transformed grief into hope, illuminating the path for souls seeking eternal rest.
Isis’s legacy did not end with Osiris. As a mother herself, she gave birth to Horus, the falcon-headed god who would avenge his father’s death and become the protector of the living. This cycle of life, death, and rebirth became the essence of Egyptian mythology, with Isis at its heart.
For centuries, Isis was worshiped in temples across Egypt and beyond, her influence spreading like the waters of the Nile. She became a symbol of femininity, motherhood, and magic, her image adorned with a throne upon her head, signifying her role as the queen of the gods. Festivals were held in her honor, where the faithful would gather to celebrate her strength and compassion.
Today, Isis remains a powerful figure in modern spirituality, a reminder of the strength that lies within love and the resilience of the human spirit. Working with her teaches us that even in the darkest of times, hope can prevail, and that love, once kindled, can never truly die. In her light, we find our own paths illuminated, guiding us through the trials of life and into the arms of rebirth.

PRAYER TO GODDESS ISIS
O Isis, You are the Mother.
O Isis, You are a guide and You are love.
You showed Your name and You showed Your face until I could no longer ignore it,
turn away or pretend it was mere coincidence.
You appeared as love and nurture and You took my hand
and lead me to love and to depth and to community, new community.
New friends in old friends and new friends through old friends.
You showed me it was okay. You assured me I would be okay.
You loved me as only a mother could and made me feel capable.
A love so strong You would fight with death and wield magic using Heka unstoppable
until Your pain ceased and Your tears fell no more.
The strength to mother Kings and Queens,
the ferocity to travel the realms and stop at nothing to protect your Beloveds.
Your love is terrifying, terrific and terrible.
O Isis, Filled with awe and reverence we bow before You.
You who would love us no matter what.
You who would protect us no matter what.
You who would fight for us no matter what.
You who instill within us the virtues and skills needed to live in harmony with Ma’at.
Your lessons are seldom easy.
You comfort but Your teachings are seldom comfortable.
You love but Your lessons hurt as sometimes the truest loves do.
You see all that is within that we hide,
that we dare not face or realize or admit, as only a mother would.
You plant the seeds for growth and push us on.
You soar over us on falcon wings and tear at doubt.
You claw at pain and rip at the chaos that threatens to overcome us.
O Isis, Filled with awe and reverence we bow before You.
NATRUA
