LESSER BANISHING RITUAL OF THE PENTAGRAM (LBRP)

This ritual is designed to clear your area (and yourself) of elemental forces and negative energies.
The LBRP, while called a ritual, is actually a ceremony (collection of rituals) used to banish elemental energies of earth back to spirit, thus creating a “blank slate” in your microcosm (Magick Circle). Subconscious attachments to stories around these energies can manifest as stuck thoughts/emotions and the LBRP is a good tool to clear the mind of these energies so the practitioner can come back into a state of stillness.
It also is a sign of power and direction over the elements (which exist within the mind of the student), enforcing their obedience to the Will of God with the use of sacred geometry and sound (the Word). This ritual is broken up into several parts, the inner QBL cross, the tracing of the pentagrams while toning specific names of God for banishing, drawing of a magick circle, evoking Archangels for protection, and calling in the light of the Higher Self.
INTRODUCTION
Before beginning magickal operations, it is important for the student to first purify and protect their space with a thorough banishing. This ensures that outside or undesired energies that may interfere with the student’s intention are removed before beginning a new operation. Essentially, it’s good energetic hygiene.
The performing of this ritual not only cleanses and purifies the space, it does so to the inner world of the student which can be observed through the law of correspondents. A proper banishing should result in an increase in stillness and reverence within the student, therefore, the space outside the student also comes into a state of stillness and becomes Holy Ground. It is now suitable to call down the forces of heaven.
Studying the individual components and the ceremony of the LBRP as a whole is critical for understanding the process of creation as it unlocks aspects of the mysteries contained within the four worlds of Kabbalah, the geometric forms and structures that light moves through to create the desired affect (banishing of elemental energies), and working with angelic forces.
METHODS
To properly examine this ritual, it requires application of knowledge in combination with the experience gained from performing the ritual regularly with increasing awareness of the effect on the external energies and reflecting on the effect on the internal world.
In this case, the materials required are the self, a phurba or athame, ceremonial regalia (stole), and lots of practice. This is always performed within a Magick Circle as this is the container of the microcosm of the magician. The opening of the Magick Circle should be followed by the Regular Opening and 7 Directional Pentagram. While the 7 Directional Pentagram is not necessary for the operation, it helps with it’s examination by sealing up one’s cube of space from influences or distortions of the lower self and was used for this analysis of the LBRP.
Most observations were taken in the morning and in the evening each day. If testing multiple times in a row, the LBRP was performed and any changes in energy were noted. Rituals were then performed with the focus on a specific element. For example, if the focus was Fire, Michael would be called in and asked to fill the space with the energy of fire and the aura would be visualized being filled up with red color. Changes in energy were noted and the LBRP would then be performed again. This was repeated for each element with the corresponding angel (Michael/Fire, Raphael/Air, Gabriel/Water, Auriel/Earth). This also provides a diagnostic tool for the student on which elements they have difficulty banishing which also indicates where they have imbalances in their inner world.
RESULTS
The operations are always performed in the conditions stated in Methods.
PERFORMING THE KABBALISTIC CROSS
The inner Kabbalistic Cross is performed at the beginning and end of the ritual of the LBRP. This symbol provides protection and empowerment to the student as it draws down heavenly forces into the body.
It is performed first by bringing oneself into a state of stillness and connecting to the supernal realm and speaking ATEH (“Thou Art”) referencing a state of being as Spirit and invoking the Higher Self.
A line of light is then drawn down the central core with the vertical inclination of 180º which is significant because 1+8+0 = 9 which represents Yesod, the world of illusion. We touch this second point at Yesod while visualizing the line of light extending down to our feet and stating MALKUTH (“the Kingdom) and thereby creating our “Kingdom” or physical experience through the world of Yesod.
Next we touch the right shoulder recognizing the “Power” (Ve-Geburah) of God and drawing a line of light to the left shoulder recognizing the “Glory” (Ve-Gedula) of God. The line of light at this level as a vertical inclination of 0 which equals Nothing indicating that in order to call down the Power and Glory of God below the abyss, one must be be in Void, be nothing, create nothing.
We also understand that the only way to do this is to be in balance with the four elements which can only occur when we are in the Center indicated by the practitioner bringing their hands to prayer position at the heart (Center) and stating LE OLAM (“Forever” or “Eternity”). This connection to the heart creates a geometry of a cross of light with a circle in the middle (Circle = infinity or eternity) symbolizing Christ Consciousness and the outpouring of Agape (unconditional love of God which flows out from the heart of God/center/eternity) into our physical experience (the Ceremony of Life). The angles of the cross all add up to 9 with the circle being 360º which also adds up to 9 which reinforces the message of the importance of understanding our foundation.
We end this section by bringing the hands down to the sides and stating AMEN (“So Be It”) which indicates surrender and alignment to the Will of God.
THE PENTAGRAM
We use the Earth Banishing Pentagram in each of the 4 directions. For simplicity, I will discuss an extremely simplified explanation to why we use this pentagram before discussing the combination of the pentagram with the God Name in each direction.
We draw the Earth Banishing Pentagram starting in the lower left corner (Earth) banishing the elemental energies of Earth (what we chose to create for ourselves) back to Spirit. This brings those energies back into alignment with Spirit and the Will of God. Spirit then descends (Light/Spirit in motion) thus beginning a new cycle of creation which once again placing each of the elements under the control of Spirit.
Another thing to note is that each of the angles of the pentagram. The first angle created is the outer point which is 36º (3+6=9). The second angle formed is the inner point of the arms which is 72º (7+2=9). The final angle is the outer angle which is 108º (1+8=9). There are hidden angles as well that I won’t mention but each of the angles of the pentagram equals 9 which again indicates that the human experience is based upon our foundation as eternal beings and affirms the body of the Adam Kadmon in the practitioner.
COLOR OF THE PENTAGRAM
The next thing to discuss is the color of the pentagram. We use two different colors depending on the desired effect. The first color that is introduced is the RED pentagram which connects us to the root energy allowing for the transmutation and transformation of the frequency of the Soul Body into a higher vibrational form. The second color we use is BLUE which aligns us with the vibration of Truth (“What Is”), forces us to begin confronting reality and to begin connecting to our higher self.
BANISHING ELEMENTAL FORCES IN CARDINAL DIRECTIONS
In each direction we invoke one of the four names of God in each of the cardinal points along with the earth banishing pentagram in order to banish the four elements. The pentagram is first drawn using the athame with the appropriate visualization, focus and intention. The center is pierced and the God Name for that direction is vibrated. It is important that the student does NOT lower the athame between the pentagrams and focuses on drawing the circle from one cardinal point to the next.
Facing East : YHVH (“I AM”) is invoked by vibrating Yod Hey Vav Hey. This name is also called the TETRAGRAMMATON, or four letter name of God and is said to denote the four celestial elements (1). In very simplistic terms, it represents oneness, omnipresence and divine point in which all creation emerges, and unity within the multiplicity of the individuated whole. YHVH numerologically is represented by 10 – 5 – 6 – 5 which adds up to 26 = 8, unlimited possibilities. So the student faces East, the direction of the Air (Mind) and banishes all the elements that create thoughts within in the mind, therefore bringing the mind under the control of the Higher Self.
Facing South: ADONAI/ADNI (“Lord” or “to be”) is invoked in the South. Numerologically it is represented by Aleph Dalet Nun Yod or 1 – 4 – 14 – 10 which adds up to 29 = 11 = 2, duality. It is the glyph of existence as within it contains the 12 “Tribes of Israel” or Zodiac signs. In the South is fire, representing gaining control over passions and desires in order to come back into unity.
Facing West: EHYEH/AHIH (“I Am That I Am” or “the countenance”) is invoked in the West. Numerologically it is represented by 1 – 5 – 10 – 5 which adds up to 11 = 2, duality. In the West we have Water, representing that in understanding the self, one gains control over emotions (forces of creation).
Both ADNI and AHIH convey ideas of existence or states of being. AHIH is the countenance of the lord, the flaming sword that comes from the mouth of he who sits upon the throne. It is from here that the path of the flaming sword appears, and it is appropriate that we use it in the watery West as the passion (Agape) of the lord moving across the face of the waters.
Facing North: AGLA (“You Are Mighty Forever, Oh Lord”) is invoked in the North. The seal of AGLA is often depicted, one letter in each of the four sections of Malkuth declaring it the Kingdom of the Lord. Numerologically it is represented by 1 – 3 – 12 – 1 which adds up to 8, returning to unlimited possibilities that are accessible in Earth (physicality) only after gaining victory over one’s mind, passions, and emotions.
EVOKING ARCHANGELS
Next we evoke the 4 Angels of Da’ath to provide protection for the purification of these energies. These are the Angels of the cardinal directions (Michael, Gabriel, Raphael, and Auriel). Each governs a watchtower and the elemental energies of that direction. At this point the student stands in the center of the circle as a pentagram, while holding all the visuals and energies above, seeing it the pentagram light up on the body with white light. It is then pushed forward and the student states, “before me flames the pentagram”. At this moment the pentagram turns red and bursts into flames. The flames swirl throughout the circle burning away all elemental energies within the circle. The student is protected by the Archangels as they facilitate this process. Evoking different Archangels have different effects, but these are the primary ones used due to their relationship to the elements/watchtowers and protecting us as we release attachments coming back to unity.
Looking up the student sees the Seal of the Higher Self shining down and states, “above me shines the six-rayed star”. The star grows to the full size of the circle as the light of the Higher Self penetrates everything within the circle and sealing the space.
The ceremony is concluded by repeating the Inner Kabbalistic Cross.
RESULTS
The LBRP is useful for banishing elemental energies that have been called in and need to be dismissed, or for purification if the student has elemental imbalances. When the ritual is successful there is a crisp stillness, cleanliness, and feeling of deep reverence that allows the influence of the Holy Guardian Angel and Higher Self to penetrate the mind increasing ability to express one’s individuality.
It was noted that banishing elements other than Earth with the Earth Banishing Pentagram seemed to cause stillness as usual, followed by emotional or mental energies being disturbed. It is possible that if one calls in Air energy, using an Air Banishing Pentagram would be more effective (this was not tested). Additionally, it leads to the question if invocation of a different element with LIRP would require the same element to be used for the banishing pentagram (again, not tested).
